IndiGo flight diverted
An IndiGo flight from Kannur to Abu Dhabi (6E 1433) was diverted to Ahmedabad on Monday following a massive volcanic eruption in Ethiopia—the first in nearly 10,000 years.
The Airbus landed safely, and IndiGo later confirmed that a return flight to Kannur would be arranged for passengers.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air issued a travel update saying it is keeping a close watch on the volcanic activity and its possible impact on routes in the region. The airline stated that its teams are monitoring international advisories and will take all necessary safety measures, stressing that passenger well-being remains their top priority.
“#TravelUpdate We are closely monitoring the volcanic activity in Ethiopia and its potential impact on flight operations in nearby regions. Our teams will continue to assess the situation in compliance with international aviation advisories and safety protocols and take necessary actions as required. At Akasa Air, passenger safety and well-being is our utmost priority,” said Akasa Air in an official statement.
Indian aviation officials and airlines are keeping a close watch on how the eruption may affect flights over Delhi and Jaipur from Monday evening. Some services have already changed their routes to steer clear of the volcanic ash plume.
