Jyothi Yarraji Qualifies For Asian Games
Jyothi Yarraji, the national record holder in the 100m hurdles, made a remarkable return to competition after a year-long injury lay-off, breaching the Athletics Federation of India’s (AFI) Asian Games qualifying standard on the opening day of the National Inter-State Championships on Wednesday.
Yarraji, who underwent successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery in July last year, clocked 13.14 seconds in the heats—comfortably bettering the AFI’s qualifying mark of 13.34 seconds.
The 26-year-old, running with both legs strapped, had won a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in China. Her national record stands at 12.78 seconds, set in 2023.
She had sustained the injury in June last year during training.
