Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has passed a proposal to reinstate the special status (Article 370) of the state. BJP MLAs opposed this. Tore copies of the proposal and went to the well and raised slogans. They climbed the bench and created ruckus, due to which the proceedings of the House were adjourned for more than an hour.

BJP called Deputy CM Surinder Singh ‘Jaichand of Jammu’. Meanwhile, MLAs were seen climbing on the table in the well and raising slogans.
Written in the proposal – Government should talk about the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary put forward this proposal as soon as the assembly session began. It said, ‘The special status and constitutional guarantees of the state are important. It protects the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Assembly expresses concern over its unilateral removal.
The Government of India should talk to the representatives here regarding the special status of the state. Work should be done on its constitutional restoration. The Assembly emphasizes that this restoration should be done keeping in mind both national unity and the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Independent MLAs Sheikh Khurshid and Shabbir Kulle, PC chief Sajjad Lone and PDP MLAs supported it.
BJP said- Speaker himself made the proposal
All BJP MLAs including LoP Sunil Sharma opposed the proposal. Sharma said he had information that the Speaker had called a meeting of ministers on Tuesday and prepared the proposal himself. During this time they kept raising slogans like Speaker Hi-Hi and Pakistani agenda will not work.
Sharma also asked how the proposal was brought when the LG’s address was to be discussed? He said that this proposal is not acceptable to him. After this he tore its copy and threw it in the well. Amidst the uproar, Assembly Speaker Abdur Rahim Rather got the voting done on the proposal. After which the proposal was passed with majority.
National Conference had promised in the manifesto
The Central Government had abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August 2019. During this time it was divided into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In the recently held assembly elections, the National Conference had promised in its manifesto to make efforts for its restoration. After passing the resolution, CM Omar Abdullah said that the Assembly has done its work.
