Jantar Mantar Protest Live Updates, October 2 2026: Student organisations are set to hold a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Friday, Gandhi Jayanti, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of electoral rolls.

The proposed mobilisation has been called by the All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).

Delhi Police has not granted permission for the gathering. However, the organisations intend to proceed with the protest, with around 1,500 people expected to take part, a member of one of the groups said.

The mobilisation comes against the backdrop of broader protests by student and activist groups over the Election Commission’s handling of electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
