Jannik Sinner beats Andrey Rublev to reach Italian Open semi finals, sets new record with 32nd straight ATP Masters 1000 wins, will face Daniil Medvedev next.

World number one Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run on clay by defeating Andrey Rublev in straight sets to storm into the semi-finals of the Italian Open on Thursday, while also breaking Novak Djokovic’s long-standing Masters 1000 winning streak record.
Sinner delivered another clinical performance in Rome, sweeping past the Russian 6-2, 6-4 to claim his 32nd consecutive victory in ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. The Italian moved one clear of Djokovic’s previous benchmark, set during the Serbian’s remarkable 2011 campaign.
Despite the achievement, Sinner insisted his focus remains firmly on his own journey rather than on statistical milestones.
“I don’t play for records, I play just for my own story,” said Jannik Sinner on court.
“At the same time, it means a lot to me, but tomorrow is another day, another opponent, a different opponent.”
The 24-year-old looked in complete control throughout the quarter-final, breaking Rublev early in both sets and never allowing the Russian to settle. Rublev struggled badly with consistency, producing 28 unforced errors across the match as Sinner dictated play from the baseline.
The Italian’s sharp movement and touch were again on full display, particularly during a stunning cross-court drop shot that helped him secure a crucial second-set break. Sinner wrapped up the contest in just over 90 minutes, to the delight of the home crowd at Foro Italico.
“I felt like we both didn’t play at our best today, but at the same time, you know, the conditions here are very tough,” said Sinner of the changeable and windy weather in Rome.
“I tried to adapt myself in the best possible way, and obviously I’m happy.”

Sinner will now face former world number one Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals after the Russian battled back from a set down to defeat Spain’s Martin Landaluce in a tense three-setter.
The Italian heads into the last four as the overwhelming favourite, especially with Carlos Alcaraz sidelined through injury. Having already captured Masters 1000 titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid, Sinner now stands on the verge of adding Rome to his growing collection.
With the French Open approaching later this month, the Italian’s form has further strengthened belief that he could complete a career Grand Slam at Roland Garros.
