Income Tax Return Filing: ITR-3 Now Available Online for AY 2026-27
The Income Tax Department has activated online filing as well as the Excel Utility for ITR-3 on its e-filing portal for Assessment Year (AY) 2026-27. With this move, eligible taxpayers can now begin submitting their income tax returns using Form ITR-3.
The announcement was made through the department’s official X handle. The release of ITR-3 follows the earlier rollout of utilities for ITR-1, ITR-2 and ITR-4, completing the availability of major return filing forms for the current assessment year.
Key Updates Introduced In ITR-3
The latest ITR-3 form includes several reporting changes aimed at improving disclosure requirements and simplifying compliance.
Taxpayers involved in market trading activities will now be required to separately report income from futures and options (F&O), intraday trading, commodity trading and currency trading. Earlier, such details were not required to be disclosed in a segregated manner.
The revised form also streamlines auditor-related disclosures by reducing certain reporting requirements while retaining essential audit information.
Another notable addition is the option to provide a secondary address along with an alternate mobile number and email ID. Further, taxpayers will need to furnish more granular details regarding business activities and specified high-value financial transactions.
Eligibility And Important Deadlines
ITR-3 is meant for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) earning income from business or profession. It can also be used by taxpayers who have income from salary, house property, capital gains, dividends, interest and share trading activities, including F&O and intraday trades. Partners receiving remuneration from partnership firms are also eligible to file this form.
However, taxpayers who do not have business or professional income cannot use ITR-3. Those eligible to file returns under ITR-1, ITR-2 or ITR-4 are not required to opt for this form.
For taxpayers not subject to a tax audit, the deadline to file ITR-3 for AY 2026-27 is August 31, 2026. Taxpayers whose accounts are required to be audited will have time until October 31, 2026, to submit their returns.
