The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched the EOS-05 imaging satellite late Thursday night at 2:55 am. It was sent into space by GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota. This mission occurred about five years after the failure of GIST-1.

EOS-05 is an imaging satellite. Its weight is about 2,367kg. It will remain 36 thousand kilometers above and take pictures of a large part of India. Will be able to keep an eye on many areas including the Pakistan-China border. It will also help in disaster.

ISRO is going to launch something after about eight months. Earlier, two launches of ISRO in January 2026 and March 2025 had failed.

Mission launched from Sriharikota

GSLV-F17 was the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle programme. It was flown from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.

The rocket will deliver EOS-05 to Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit i.e. Sub-GTO. A four meter diameter OGV composite payload fairing will be used in this mission.

GISAT-1 mission failed in 2021

In August 2021, ISRO tried to launch GISAT-1 from GSLV-F10.

The mission failed after the rocket encountered problems in the cryogenic stage. Due to this the satellite could not reach the orbit.

GISAT-1 was designed for near real-time imaging of the Indian subcontinent from geostationary orbit.

ISRO’s last 2 launches failed

PSLV-C62- On January 12, 2026, the rocket was carrying Defense DRDO’s ‘Anwesha’ satellite and 15 other co-passenger satellites, but the mission failed due to uncontrollable failure in the third stage.

PSLV-C61-The objective of this mission was to place Earth Observation Satellite EOS-09 in orbit on 18 May 2025, but the mission failed due to sudden drop of combustion chamber pressure in the third stage.

PSLV-C62 was launched at 10.18 am on January 12 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
