US President Donald Trump said he was speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge restraint following Iran’s latest missile strikes, according to reports by Axios and Israel’s Channel 12.
Trump told Axios reporter Barak Ravid that he was “very close” to securing an agreement with Iran to permanently end the conflict and did not want the diplomatic effort derailed by a new round of escalation.
“The Iranian strikes didn’t hurt anybody. Hopefully, Israel is not going to retaliate,” Trump said, warning that a counterstrike by Netanyahu could prolong the cycle of conflict rather than bring it to an end.
