How a former domestic help allegedly bypassed a four-layered security system at an IRS officer’s home has become a key focus of the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of the bureaucrat’s 22-year-old daughter in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony on Wednesday.
Police believe 23-year-old Rahul Meena, a former servant of the family and a native of Rajasthan’s Alwar, used his familiarity with the house layout, access codes and spare key locations to enter the residence on Wednesday morning while the victim’s parents were away at the gym.
According to sources, the house has multiple security barriers, including locked access points on every floor and restricted lift entry. To reach the section where the victim was staying, at least four locks had to be opened, three of which operated through passcodes.
Investigators suspect Meena knew the codes and was aware of where spare keys for domestic staff were kept, allowing him to move through the home without raising suspicion.
Meena, who was arrested from a hotel in Dwarka, hours after the crime, is accused of raping and murdering the daughter of an IRS officer inside the family’s residence. Police said Meena was dismissed around six weeks ago after working at the house for nearly eight months, following allegations of financial irregularities.
ACCUSED SEEN ON CCTV
According to investigators, CCTV footage shows Meena entering the residential complex around 6:28 am wearing a yellow shirt and black pants. Nearly an hour later, another clip shows him leaving around 7:22 am dressed in different clothes — white pants and what appeared to be a full-sleeve yellow T-shirt.
Sources said he was also carrying a black backpack while exiting the upscale Kailash Hills residence. Investigators believe he may have changed clothes after the crime and briefly stopped at a nearby park before fleeing.
The victim, an engineering graduate and UPSC aspirant, was alone at home at the time. Her parents returned around 8 am and found her lying in a pool of blood, with belongings scattered across parts of the house. The victim’s clothes were found torn and she was partially unclothed from the waist down.
Preliminary findings suggest she was raped before being strangled, allegedly with a mobile phone charger cable. Police have registered a case of rape, murder and robbery, though the sexual assault confirmation is awaited after medical examination results.
Police said Meena had earlier been hired through the recommendation of another officer. During his employment, he allegedly took money from the family for errands but failed to pay shopkeepers, instead purchasing goods on credit — a pattern that reportedly led to his dismissal.
ACCUSED RAPED WOMAN IN ALWAR
Investigators are also examining allegations that Meena may have committed another sexual assault in Rajasthan before arriving in Delhi. According to preliminary information, he allegedly raped a neighbour in Alwar late Tuesday night before travelling to the national capital.
Delhi Police formed nearly 15 teams to track the accused, relying heavily on CCTV footage from the residential society and surrounding roads to reconstruct his escape route.
Investigators later traced an autorickshaw believed to have transported Meena after the crime. After questioning the driver, police learnt he had dropped the suspect at a hotel in Dwarka, where a raid led to his arrest.
The case has triggered widespread outrage, with investigators continuing to analyse forensic evidence, surveillance footage and digital records to determine whether the crime was premeditated.
