Iranian forces fired warning missiles at four vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without prior coordination with Iranian authorities, state broadcaster IRIB reported on Thursday.

According to Iranian media reports, the incident took place at around 12:35 a.m. local time, when the vessels allegedly attempted to enter the Persian Gulf without informing Iranian security forces.

“They were warned, but after they ignored the warning, warning shots were fired at them, forcing them to return,” IRIB said in a statement carried on Telegram.

Iranian-linked media outlets claimed the vessels failed to comply with maritime coordination procedures imposed by Tehran amid heightened tensions in the Gulf. However, the identities of the ships and their destinations were not immediately disclosed.

The development comes amid escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran following recent US military strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington has accused Tehran of threatening commercial shipping and American forces operating in the region.

Sharp Military Escalation In Conflict This Week

Over the last four days, the region has witnessed a sharp military escalation between the United States and Iran. On May 25, US forces carried out strikes on Iranian missile sites and fast-attack boats in the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly killing four troops from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps near Bandar Abbas. Two days later, on May 27, American forces shot down four Iranian attack drones and launched a counterstrike that destroyed a drone ground-control station in Abbas city. On Thursday, Iran responded by firing a ballistic missile at a US military base in Kuwait, though the missile was successfully intercepted before impact.

Meanwhile, several US-based outlets reported that America and Iran have reached an agreement to extend the ceasefire for 60 days. However, US President Donald Trump and Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei have not approved the deal.
