On March 8, a big gang involved in black marketing of IPL match tickets and complimentary passes was busted near the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Crime Branch team has arrested 3 accused near Delhi Gate., Who were duping cricket fans by calling themselves authorized representatives of DDCA before the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals match.

A media report claimed that these passes were being sold at a petrol pump near the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Police have recovered 54 match tickets, including 33 complimentary passes which have ‘Not for Sale’ written on them.

The match was won by Kolkata by 8 wickets, in which Kolkata opener Finn Allen scored a century.

Tickets were being sold at double the price

The arrested accused have been identified as Muqeem (Moradabad), Gufran alias Sajid (Jamia Nagar) and Mohammad Faisal (Seelpur). These accused were selling free passes at a whopping price of ₹20,000 per pass, while normal tickets were being sold at double the print rate.

DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav (IPS) said that the accused have been taken on police remand. Investigation is ongoing to identify other people involved in this syndicate. If any other person’s involvement is found, strict legal action will be taken against him also.

The network was spread across the country through flights

Inquiry has revealed that this gang was active not only in Delhi but all over India. The accused used to travel by flight to cities where IPL matches were held. The accused used to provide premium tickets to online betting (satta) people and high-profile pickpockets inside the stadium. The police is now investigating from where and through whom these accused were getting huge amount of complimentary passes.

Old criminal record of the accused According to the Crime Branch, several cases of blacking tickets are already registered against these three accused in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. A case is also registered against accused Faisal under the Gambling Act in Punjab. Police recovered ₹25,000 cash and 54 tickets from the accused and registered a case under various sections of the new laws (BNS) instead of IPC.
