The 31-year-old Belgian, who helped Liverpool to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles, expressed his gratitude to have done what he had always dreamed of.

Former Liverpool forward Divock Origi called time on his playing career on Monday bringing the curtains down on his time as a professional player.

The 31-year-old Belgian, who helped Liverpool to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles, expressed his gratitude to have done what he had always dreamed of.

“My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it.”

“To my fans across the world who helped me shine: every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours.”

“To every club, and all the coaches and teammates who stood beside me, thank you. You shaped me in ways that go far beyond the pitch,” he added.

Origi, who netted for Belgium during the side’s famous game against hosts Brazil at the 2010 World Cup, also stated how proud he was of the accomplishment of earning a national cap, during the Golden Generation nevertheless.

“Representing Belgium, my nation, while carrying Kenya, my roots, was a joy.”

“And to my family and those closest to me… without you, I am not who I am today. I am forever grateful.

“The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling.”

Origi, who started out at Genk’s youth academy before moving to Lille, where he made his senior debut, made the move to Liverpool in 2014 and went on to don the famous Red for eight years, netting over a hundred times for the Merseyside club.

Origi went on loan to Lille and Wolfsburg respectively, before making the permanent switch to AC Milan. The Belgian also had a brief stint at Nottingham Forest in 2023/24 before.
