PM Modi on Thursday presented India’s first private orbital rocket Vikram-I to the world through video conferencing. The height of this rocket is equal to a 7 storey building. The rocket has been built by private space company Skyroot Aerospace. This rocket will be launched in 2026. It is capable of carrying 300 kg satellite with itself.
Apart from the rocket, the PM also inaugurated the company’s new Infinity Campus. Design, development, integration and testing of many launch vehicles will be done in this campus. The campus is built in Hyderabad, Telangana. The head office of the company is also here.
Skyroot Aerospace Company was founded by Pawan Chandana and Bharat Dhaka in 2018. Both of them are IIT passouts and former ISRO scientists. His competition is with American businessman Elon Musk. Actually Musk is also working in the space sector. His SpaceX company has launched many private rockets.
Skyroot company had earlier launched Vikram-S rocket in 2022, which was a sub-orbit rocket, that is, it went 100 km above but could not enter the Earth’s orbit. Vikram-I is an orbital rocket that will go inside the Earth’s orbit.
