The body of an Indian protocol officer has been found at India’s Assistant High Commission in Bangladesh’s Chattogram, according to local reports.
The victim was identified as Naren Dhar, 38, hailing from Chandigarh. He served as the assistant protocol officer in the Indian mission in Bangladesh. His body was found on Tuesday inside the office premises on Zakir Hossain Road in the port city’s Khulshi area, according to bdnews24.com.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner for Public Relations Aminur Rashid said the body was recovered in front of the bathroom door of a data entry room on the second floor of the building. The cops suspect that Dhar died of a cardiac arrest.
The police completed the necessary formalities before sending the body to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for a postmortem.
Confirming the matter, CMCH Director Brig Gen Mohammad Taslim Uddin told local media that the man was brought dead to the hospital. However, no injury marks or suspicious signs were found on the body during the initial examination.
An investigation has been launched in the matter and the autopsy report is awaited. India has not officially commented on the matter.
Islam told The Daily Star that an unnatural death case would be filed in connection with the incident, and the body would be handed over to officials of the Assistant High Commission of India following the autopsy.
