India will face two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay in their third and final FIFA international friendly on Tuesday (October 6). The match between the two teams is scheduled to take place at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
The Blue Tigers faced five-time champions Brazil at the same venue on Saturday (October 3) in front of more than 50,000 fans but suffered a one-sided 0-4 defeat. However, in the first quarter of their first-ever match against the Selecao, Indian players, especially Manvir Singh and Ryan Williams, impressed with their performances. They will now be hoping to find the back of the net against Uruguay.
Unlike India, Uruguay secured a 4-2 win over South Korea in their last friendly match, and the South American giants will start the match against India as favourites. However, they cannot afford to take the Blue Tigers lightly, as India played out a 1-1 draw against Panama in Bengaluru last month.
Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde will miss the historic match against India on Tuesday due to injury. He was ruled out of the fixture last month after suffering a Grade 3 sprain in his left ankle.
However, even in his absence, Uruguay have several world-class players, including José María Giménez, Ronald Araújo, Lucas Torreira, Rodrigo Bentancur and Darwin Núñez.
