The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced Team India’s squads for the upcoming five-match ODI series and two-match Test series against New Zealand. Shubman Gill will lead the team in the first three ODIs, while Shreyas Iyer, who has been named vice-captain for the first three matches, is set to take charge for the last two matches. The team management is likely to manage Gill’s workload, with the star batter also set to lead India in the two-match Test series that concludes the tour.
Former captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be available for the entirety of the ODI series, having retired from Tests and T20Is.
Bengal pacer Akash Deep has been recalled to the Test side, while wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra received his maiden call-up for the final two ODIs.
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will take no part in the ODI series but will feature in the two Tests. Meanwhile, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been omitted from the ODI squad.
Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel have been named in India’s Test squad as wicketkeepers, with Pant’s participation subject to clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has earned a call-up for the first three ODIs, while Prasidh Krishna’s selection for the first three ODIs is subject to fitness clearance.
The Test series will be played from November 19 and will be preceded by the ODI starting on November 4.
