Vietnamese President To Lam will likely discuss buying BrahMos missiles during his 3-day visit to India, according to Reuters.

In March, Indonesia signed an agreement with India to procure the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system. India has also sold the supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines.

Reuters quoted sources saying that Lam, who is in New Delhi from May 5-7, is expected to discuss expanding defence ties, including the potential purchase ‌of BrahMos missiles jointly developed with Russia.

Though they said that some defence cooperation announcements could be made during the visit, no signing of a weapons deal was expected.

However, there has been no official confirmation from either government on the matter.

BrahMos Ecosystem

The BrahMos missile is developed and produced by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia.

According to analysts, several listed defence companies participate in the broader ecosystem through the supply of electronics, propulsion systems, materials and integration support.

Indian defence players such as Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Data Patterns (India), Paras Defence and Space Technologies, Premier Explosives, and PTC Industries form part of the broader BrahMos supply chain.
