The Indian government has lifted the temporary ban on all types of postal services for America. From tomorrow i.e. October 15, postal services for America will start as before. Earlier on August 25, the Indian Postal Department had imposed a temporary ban on the postal service.
The reason for suspending the service was US President Donald Trump’s new tariff rules. The Trump administration had issued an order on July 30 this year, in which the tariff exemption on goods worth up to $ 800 (Rs 70 thousand) was abolished with effect from August 29.
New custom duty system implemented
Till now, when you sent any goods from India to America through post, the custom duty had to be paid by the person receiving the goods in America upon reaching the goods. In the new system, custom duty will now be collected at the time of booking the goods (in India). This is called DDP (Delivered Duty Paid).
This duty will be sent directly to the American authorities. Due to this, the person receiving the goods in America will not face any problem, and customs clearance will be done faster. No extra charge will be taken for the new DDP facility.
On August 25, the Indian Postal Department had temporarily banned all types of postal services to America.
Britain, Germany, France, Italy have also suspended service
After India, many European countries also suspended postal services for America. These include many countries including Italy, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria. Germany’s Deutsche Post had temporarily banned sending parcels to private and business customers.
Italy’s Post had banned this service from August 23. Britain’s Royal Mail Service had stopped all packages being sent to America.
