India met 15.5% of Ukraine’s diesel needs in July.

India supplied the most diesel to Ukraine in July 2025. Ukraine’s oil market analytics firm Naforinok has given this information. This bounce in diesel supply has come in a time when the US has imposed a 50% punishious tariffs on India’s Russian oil imports.

According to Naforinok, India met 15.5% of Ukraine’s diesel needs this month, which was only 1.9% in July 2024 last year. In July 2025, India sent an average of 2,700 tonnes of diesel Ukraine every day, one of the highest monthly export figures of this year.

The most interesting thing here is that India is buying the most crude oil from Russia to make diesel, which is having war with Ukraine. That is, on the one hand the US is punishing India for buying Russian oil, and on the other hand India’s diesel is supporting Ukraine’s war -time economy. It reflects global diplomacy and complications of business.

Trump said- India is giving funding to war machine

Donald Trump says that countries like India and China are buying cheaper oil from Russia and funding its war machine. At the same time, India says that it is buying oil from Russia because it is cheaper and it is getting fuel to Indian consumers at affordable prices.

India will continue to buy oil from Russia

  • The Government of India has made it clear that it will not stop buying oil from Russia. Two government sources told the Reuters that these are long -time oil contracts, which are not possible to stop overnight.
  • India is the third largest oil importer and consumer country in the world. Russia is its largest oil supplier, which meets about 35-40% of India’s total oil needs.
  • India argues that buying cheaper oil from Russia not only benefited its economy, but has also helped to keep global oil prices stable.
  • India’s Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this step of India was in line with the policy of America and Europe, as India prevented global oil prices from increasing by purchasing cheap Russian oil.

Penalty on India on Russian oil, but not on China

Tariff of America has increased tension over Indo-US relations. India says that the US targeted him. Russia’s biggest oil buyer is China, but no penalty was imposed on it. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that punishment on China can increase global oil prices.

India’s Foreign Secretary recently said that talks are going on with the US regarding trade and energy security. India is also ready to buy American oil, but it is not financially possible for it to completely shut down oil imports from Russia.
