West Indies had made a huge score of 405/7 on Wednesday (30 September), but this target also fell short in front of the stormy batting of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. During this period, Gill left behind Ishan Kishan’s record. Ishaan completed his ODI double century in 126 balls. This was also Gill’s 11th century in ODI, which he completed in just 62 balls. This was his fastest century in ODI.
Rohit also scored a century
at the other extreme Rohit Sharma Batted in his old style. He hit brilliant drives on the off side with pulls and pick-up shots and scored 101 runs in 75 balls.
Rohit also completed 12,000 runs in ODI cricket during this innings. He became only the seventh batsman in the world to reach this milestone and the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. After completing the century, Rohit celebrated by jumping in a different way.
Opening partnership of 255 runs
Gill and Rohit attacked the West Indies bowlers from the very beginning. India completed 100 runs in 12 overs. Gill completed his half-century in 38 balls, while Rohit scored his fifty in just 32 balls.
By the 22nd over, India’s score reached 200 runs without losing any wicket. For the first time in an ODI, an opening pair scored 200 runs while chasing a target of more than 350.
Both added 255 runs for the first wicket. This partnership broke in 26.2 overs, when Rohit was out after scoring 101 runs. At that time India needed 151 more runs to win and 24 overs were left. Even after this, Gill did not let the pace slow down and died after taking India to the target.
Earlier Windies had also created a storm
Earlier, West Indies had exposed the inexperienced pace attack of the Indian bowlers and scored 405/7. John Campbell scored 101 runs in 68 balls, Shai Hope scored 104 runs in 94 balls and Aamir Jangu scored 114 runs in 77 balls.

Campbell completed his century in just 65 balls. Campbell, a fan of Chris Gayle, batted aggressively like him and hit 9 fours and 5 sixes.
Hope was caught by Virat Kohli at short midwicket on 27 runs. After this he took over the innings and then scored runs rapidly. There were 8 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.
Jangu completed his second ODI century in just 69 balls. 13 fours and 3 sixes came from his bat. For the first time, West Indies achieved the feat of scoring three centuries in an ODI and also left behind its previous best score of 389 runs.
Again questions for the bowlers
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj not playing, India gave a chance to the young bowlers, but the performance left questions. Aaqib Nabi gave 84 runs in 8.5 overs. He became the highest run scorer by an Indian bowler on ODI debut.
Gurnoor Brar took 2 wickets for 96 runs in 10 overs, while Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket for 45 runs in 5 overs. Naman Dheer also suffered an ankle injury while bowling and left the field after 6.1 overs.
It was a matter of relief for India that Kuldeep Yadav completed his 200 wickets in ODI by taking 2/65. Ravindra Jadeja also performed 2/75.
