During a raid by the Agriculture Department in western Uttar Pradesh in May 2026 UPL Seed treatment product ‘Electron’ (Electron) of 2,500 liters of fake consignment has been seized. UPL, the manufacturer of ‘Electron’, has issued a new warning regarding the increasing presence of fake agricultural products. The company has urged farmers to exercise caution while purchasing seed treatment products.
‘Electron’ is UPL’s seed treatment solution designed for the protection of seeds and seedlings in the early stages of crop growth. This product is a mixture of fungicide and insecticide protection, which protects the seeds from early pests and diseases and also helps in healthy growth of the crop.
UPL says that the use of genuine seed treatment products plays a vital role in ensuring the correct growth of the crop and long-term productivity of the farm.
Farmers should understand the difference between real and fake
The counterfeit goods seized during the raid were missing many basic product related information, which should be there on genuine agricultural products. These include manufacturing and expiry information and batch numbers. UPL said the absence of such information should be a warning signal to farmers before purchasing and stressed that purchasing products without proper labeling should be avoided.
The company said the incident highlights the need for greater awareness among farmers about look-alike agro-chemical products.
UPL continues to promote awareness among farmers through programs that aim to educate growers about responsible farming practices and informed product choices.

The company advised farmers to check product labels carefully, check expiry dates and manufacturing information, check ingredient information, obtain a copy of the invoice from the retailer, scan the QR code on the pack to confirm authenticity, check the seal of the pack and purchase the product only after ensuring that all relevant information is present on the packaging.
The company warned that products available at very low prices may appear attractive. But such products do not work as expected and can adversely affect the health of the crop over time.
Appeal to farmers to be cautious
A UPL spokesperson said, “The rise of counterfeit agricultural products is a matter of serious concern for the farming community. Farmers should remain alert and ensure that they purchase genuine and genuine seed treatment products for their crops.
Choosing cheap alternatives may not yield the desired results and such products may harm their yields in the long run. Before buying anything, it is very important to check its authenticity. It is also important to create awareness among farmers to prevent similar products from entering the market and to protect their valuable investments.
We appeal to farmers to contact UPL representatives for any assistance in this matter and to report any suspicious businesses they see around them.”
