The Central Government has issued a new order regarding e-KYC for domestic LPG customers across the country. To continue booking subsidized cylinders from October 1, it will be mandatory to undergo biometric authentication i.e. e-KYC, otherwise the subsidy of Rs 210 on the cylinder will not be available.

The Petroleum Ministry says that this step has been taken to stop fake connections and to extend the true benefit of subsidy only to common households.

e-KYC of 89.9% users completed

According to the Petroleum Ministry, till September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers i.e. 89.9% authentication has been completed.

Their refill booking will continue without any interruption. For consumers whose authentication is incomplete, subsidized refill booking will be processed only after authentication.

Cylinder will be available even if e-KYC is not done

The government has said that consumers who do not want or are unable to do biometric authentication will also get the cylinder, but they will not get the subsidy. For this, they will have to choose their option through digital channel, app, WhatsApp or IVRS. They will be given 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders at market rates.

e-KYC deadline extended repeatedly

Its initial deadline was fixed as June 30, 2026, which was later extended to July 31, August 7, August 15, August 23, August 31, September 7 and finally September 14, so that consumers could get enough time.

62 thousand crores of companies crossed

According to government data, a subsidy of about ₹ 210 is being given on a 14.2kg cylinder in September 2026.

The outstanding losses of public sector oil companies on domestic LPG have crossed ₹62,000 crore by August 31, 2026.

Don’t panic if face authentication fails

There is no need to panic if face authentication fails. Open the app again and do the face verification process again.

Keep in mind that there is enough light on the face and keep the mobile steady. After face scan, check the status of ‘e-KYC Success’ in the app.

Do not assume that e-KYC is complete just because the face scan is done. If the status success is not visible, then get the e-KYC status confirmed in your consumer record from the gas agency.

2 options to get offline e-KYC

If any customer is facing problem in completing the process through the mobile app, then they also have other options-

  1. By visiting the gas agency: You can get biometric authentication done by visiting your nearest gas agency.
  2. By Cylinder Delivery Man: When the delivery personnel come to deliver the cylinder at home, biometric authentication can also be done through the official device available with them.
