“Iran does not take American threats into account,” Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday, warning the US against making further threats against the Islamic Republic and vowing that Iran’s armed forces were ready to respond if necessary.

“Don’t they think that if their threats had any effect, they would not have reached today’s state of desperation? We do not take American threats into account,” Ghalibaf said.

“They would do better to be careful with their statements; our armed forces are ready to respond to them in a different manner. No matter what they say, we are the ones who act,” he added.

Trump Threatens ‘Very Hard’ Response

Earlier on Sunday, US President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, warning Iran over its support to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble,” Trump wrote. “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!”

The fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, sparked by the Tehran-backed militant group attacking Israel in support of Iran in the wider war, has repeatedly threatened to derail peace efforts aimed to bring the war in West Asia to an end.

By Sunday evening, there were no immediate reports of fresh strikes or escalation, although tensions remained high.

The comments from both sides came as US and Iranian delegations met in Switzerland alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, following a preliminary agreement signed earlier this week. Ghalibaf is leading the Iranian delegation at the talks.

The Iranian news agency Fars reported that Trump’s latest remarks led to the suspension of the talks, though this claim could not be independently confirmed.

Article 1 of the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran on June 18 states that both sides agree “to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other” .
