Then India defeated the British and then became the team champion by defeating West Indies in the final. Both the teams last met in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the semi-finals. Even then India defeated England and then won the title by defeating South Africa in the final. India-England semi-finals also took place in the 1987 ODI World Cup and 2022 T-20 World Cup. England equalized the defeat of 1983 by defeating India by 35 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Indian dream of winning the title on home ground was shattered here. The biggest story of this match was Graham Gooch. On a pitch famous for spin, he fired a barrage of sweep shots against Indian spinners Maninder Singh and Ravi Shastri. England achieved the target of 169 runs in just 16 overs. England captain Jos Buttler (80* runs, 49 balls) and Alex Hales (86* runs, 47 balls) made an unbeaten opening partnership of 170 runs. This was the biggest opening partnership in T20 World Cup history at that time. Batting first, India scored 168/6 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli played an inning of 50 (40 balls). In this match, he became the first batsman in the world to complete 4000 runs in T-20 international cricket. Hardik Pandya scored 63 (33 balls, 4 fours and 5 sixes). But the course of the match was decided in the powerplay. India scored 38 runs in the first 6 overs, while England scored 63/0. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh could not make an impact with the new ball. After this Hales was selected as ‘Player of the Match’. His innings included 7 sixes and 4 fours. 4. 2024- Captain Rohit settled the score 27 June 2024, Providence Stadium, Guyana. The injury of 10 wickets suffered in Adelaide two years ago was still fresh.
