Ahead of the US midterm elections, President Donald Trump has outlined his plans in case Democrats take control of both chambers of Congress, saying that he would use his veto powers to block their legislative agenda.

Trump said he would not allow the opposition party to undo his administration’s work, while suggesting that political negotiations could eventually follow a period of legislative deadlock.

‘I’m Not Going To Let Them Ruin It’: Trump

“I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto,” Trump said. The Republican leader made the remarks while speaking to The Post’s Miranda Devine on her “Pod Force One” podcast in an episode scheduled to be released on Monday.

“I’m not going to let them ruin it,” the US President added.

Trump indicated that even if Democrats secure control of Congresshe would still find ways to advance his agenda. He suggested that repeated presidential vetoes could eventually push lawmakers towards negotiations and compromises.

“And then at some point, we’ll probably make deals. That’s what’s happened. I mean, this wouldn’t be the first time,” he added.

He further explained how he expects such a standoff to unfold. “They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it,” he remarked.

“And eventually, after a month or two of getting all vetoed, they’re just wasting [time]they come over, and you make a deal. I think that probably would happen, but hopefully we don’t have to worry about that,” he further stated.

US Midterms To Decide Control Of Congress

The remarks come just two days before the November 3 midterm elections, in which Americans will elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 senators. The results will determine which party controls Congress during the final two years of Trump’s presidency.

Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers, with a 218-214 advantage in the House and a 53-47 edge in the Senate.
