Hyderabad engineering student Jadav Sai Teja died by suicide after alleged ragging by seniors.
A second-year engineering student in Hyderabad died by suicide in his college hostel after he was allegedly ragged and harassed. In a last video, the student said he was being beaten, forced to pay money and begged for help. Police are probing both ragging and the suicide.
The victim, Jadav Sai Teja, 22, studied at Siddharth Engineering College in Hyderabad. He was found hanging inside his hostel room and is reported to have been a target of ragging, as reported by NDTV.
According to the family’s lawyer, Advocate Kishore, Sai Teja was taken by seniors to a bar and made to drink. He was also allegedly made to pay nearly Rs 10,000. Unable to cope with the pressure, Sai Teja died by suicide, the lawyer said.
In the video recorded before his death, Sai Teja said: “I was going to college. Four or five people came and threatened me. They are coming and demanding money.” He added: “They are also hitting me, and I’m very scared. They are coming to me and asking for money, and they are hitting me. What should I do? I’m going to die. Please save me.”
In the clip, Sai Teja appears visibly upset and frightened.
His family and Advocate Kishore travelled about 300 km overnight to reach the hostel. Police have launched an investigation into the alleged ragging and the circumstances of the suicide.
