The record for scoring in the most FIFA World Cup editions is jointly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, with both players having found the back of the net in five different World Cup tournaments.
If Ronaldo, who is captaining Portugal at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026, scores at least once in the tournament, he will become the first player in history to score in six different FIFA World Cup editions.
The 41-year-old has scored one goal each for Portugal at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 World Cups, while he netted four times during the 2018 edition in Russia.
