Meanwhile, GSHSEB has initiated online registrations for teachers and schools in preparation for the upcoming Class 10 and 12 final examinations in 2025. According to reports, the board is registering schools and teachers to ensure all processes are in place before the application period for the final exams begins. For context, GSHSEB collects registration information from teachers ahead of time, as many will be required for evaluating answer sheets.
Additionally, schools that were newly registered in the state this year must re-register, while existing schools must update their information. Meanwhile, the online application process for the Class 10 and 12 board exams will begin soon.
According to The Indian Express report, Surat District Education Officer Bhagirathsinh Parmar issued reminders to 400 teachers to pay the fines as directed by the GSHSEB after the notices were sent to more than 2,700 teachers statewide earlier this month regarding alleged discrepancies in the 2023 board exam results.
The state board has imposed a total penalty of nearly Rs 40 lakh for the discrepancies, with teachers in Surat facing fines exceeding Rs 2 lakh related to Class 12 results. Additionally, officials report that teachers in Surat have been instructed to pay over Rs 1 lakh for suspected inconsistencies in Class 10 results, reported The Indian Express
In 2023, a total of 4.89 lakh students (1.11 lakh in Science and 3.78 lakh in General) appeared for the GSHSEB’s Class 12 board exams. The results indicated a pass rate of 65.58 per cent for the Science stream and 73.27 per cent for the General stream. Following the announcement of the results, many students who failed the board exams requested a re-evaluation of their answer sheets. However, discrepancies were uncovered during the rechecking process.
Consequently, the state education department identified that 1,672 teachers across Gujarat had made errors while assessing Class 12 students’ answer sheets. As a result, the board has instructed these teachers to pay a total penalty of Rs 25,73,716 and submit the payment challan receipt, according to reports.
Similarly, for the Class 10 board exams, 1,108 teachers were found to have made such blunders, and they were reportedly penalised with Rs 15,99,750, according to a State Education Department official.
