A graduation ceremony got an unexpected dose of cuteness when a graduate walked across the stage to collect his degree with his furry companion perched proudly on his shoulder.
Instagram user Naval Tambulkar shared the adorable moment on his account, where the graduate’s unusual convocation guest quickly became the star of the ceremony.
In the video, Naval was seen walking onto the stage with his pet cat comfortably sitting on his shoulder. As he approached the dean and professors, their formal expressions quickly gave way to smiles at the sight of the feline guest.
Some of the professors were seen petting the cat and affectionately cooing at it, while the graduate continued towards the centre of the stage. The cat appeared perfectly at ease throughout the moment and even posed for a picture, looking almost as though it had earned the degree itself.
Naval captioned the post, “A for Architecture, B for Billa,” giving the academic moment a playful feline twist.

The internet, unsurprisingly, had plenty to say about the unconventional convocation attendee. One user imagined showing the clip to their own cat as proof that other cats had actually gone on to get degrees. Another called it the best video they had seen from the ongoing trend.
Someone else jokingly suggested that the ceremony should have been called “catvocation” instead of convocation.
