A day after the University of Delhi suspended a PhD scholar from its Faculty of Law for allegedly assaulting a professor, the victim revealed that two years ago the student had misbehaved with an interview panel after being asked questions about the law and the Constitution.

On Monday, a PhD scholar was suspended and barred from entering the premises of the University of Delhi after CCTV footage showed him allegedly assaulting a professor at Umang Bhawan.

Condemning the incident, Professor Anupam told CNN-News18 that just 15 days back, he had reported the accused’s aggressive behaviour to the Dean of the Faculty of Law.

He said that a committee has been constituted to investigate the incident. “I spoke with the concerned officer. Two years ago, during the PhD admission interviews, this student was asked questions about the law and the constitution and then too, he got angry and misbehaved.”

Anupam said the video in question has been forwarded to the committee as evidence. “The incident is very sad. An FIR has been lodged. The committee can likely terminate him as per the investigation.”

“After hitting me, the student rammed his car into the gate while leaving. Just 15 days ago, the Professor had reported this student’s aggressive behavior to the Dean of the Faculty of Law”, he told CNN-News18.

Professor Anupam reiterated that the University of Delhi as an institution would not tolerate such incidents. “As a university and as professors, we shouldn’t tolerate such incidents. They set a very bad precedent. It’s an insult to the Guru Shishya Parampara”.

Student Suspended Over Assault, Barred From Entering Premises

The student, a PhD scholar, was suspended on Monday, August 17, after CCTV footage showed him allegedly assaulting the professor at Umang Bhawan. According to a notice issued by the university’s Office of the Proctor, the incident took place at around 10:30 AM.
