The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has extended the registration deadline for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Candidates who have not yet completed their applications can now register without paying a late fee until October 5, 2026.

Candidates who miss the October 5 deadline will still be able to submit their applications with a late fee until October 12, 2026, according to the official GATE 2027 schedule.

“Due to many requests received, the GATE 2027 regular registration has been extended to 5th October 2026 (without any late fee). However, candidates are highly recommended to complete their registrations at the earliest without waiting for the last day,” reads the official notice.

Candidates can submit their applications through the official GATE 2027 portal. Applicants will need to register using their email ID and mobile number before completing the application form and uploading the required documents.

IIT Madras is conducting GATE 2027. The examination is scheduled to be held on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027.

Candidates who make mistakes while submitting their GATE 2027 application will be able to make corrections during the application correction window. The window will remain open from October 14 to October 21, 2026.

Candidates are advised to carefully check their personal, academic and other details while submitting the application. They should also ensure that the required documents, including photographs, signatures and applicable certificates, meet the prescribed specifications.

IIT Guwahati has increased the application fee for the GATE 2026 exam. In GATE 2025, the application fee per paper for the general category was Rs 1800 (Rs 2300 with late fee). This year, the application fee without a late fee has become Rs 2000 and with a late fee, it has become Rs 2500.

GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate programmes in engineering, technology and related disciplines at participating institutes. The score is also used by some organisations for recruitment and other opportunities, subject to their respective eligibility and selection criteria.
