Former England and Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has said that Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was all over the place during their match against Arsenal on Sunday, March 1, adding that it was a really poor performance from Sanchez that saw his team lose 1-2.
The Chelsea goalkeeper insisted he was pushed by an Arsenal footballer during the corner that led to Jurrien Timber’s second-half goal. But replays showed Sanchez was not in direct contact with anyone.
Speaking on Sky SportsNeville pointed out that the Chelsea goalkeeper was not pushed by any Arsenal footballer despite his protests after the second goal. He added that Sanchez was aware of this but still tried to deflect attention away from himself.
“Robert Sanchez is all over the place; he is whinging unnecessarily in my view. Watch Sanchez, not a chance, he is nowhere near it. It is really poor goalkeeping. He misreads the flight,” Neville said.
“He (Sanchez) has had such a poor day, he really has. On the ground and in the air. He will know deep down he was not fouled; he had to create something because he got the flight wrong,” Neville added.
Talking about the Gunners, the former England international lauded Mikel Arteta’s team for grinding out all three points. Neville noted that they were under significant pressure after Manchester City’s victory over Leeds United on Saturday, February 28.
“They found a way. It is never easy to play second, especially when Man City get the points on the board. It adds pressure, it does. But they got over the line. It is a good day for the Gunners,” Neville said.
Defenders William Saliba and Timber found the net as Arsenal bagged the victory over Chelsea, while the latter paid the price for their ill-discipline. The setback dented their push for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, after Pedro Neto was sent off with 20 minutes remaining.
