SunRisers Hyderabad were comprehensively beaten by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 Eliminator on Wednesday, May 27. And perhaps nobody felt the heartbreak more than SRH owner Kavya Maran, who watched from the stands as her side slowly unraveled at the Mullanpur Stadium.
SRH endured a miserable outing with both bat and ball. First came Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stunning 29 ball 97, an innings that completely knocked Hyderabad off balance in the first innings. Then, while chasing, Jofra Archer ripped through SRH’s top order with a fiery new ball spell, reducing the side to 57/4 in just 4.4 overs.

As wickets kept tumbling, the usually composed expression on Kavya Maran’s face slowly began to change. With every dismissal, the pressure mounted further on SRH, a team known this season for fearless and aggressive batting. By the end of the 10th over, when the match had almost slipped completely away, Kavya could only watch helplessly as Hyderabad’s campaign faded out.

Kavya Maran also found herself at the centre of social media trolling after the defeat, particularly from sections of the Chennai Super Kings fanbase. Many fans referred back to SRH’s league stage win in Chennai, where both Kavya and Ishan Kishan had animatedly gestured toward the crowd after sealing victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Following Wednesday’s loss, several fans on social media urged Kavya to remain humble in victory, pointing out how quickly fortunes can change in a tournament like the IPL.
SRH’S CAMPAIGN ENDS AT THE HANDS OF A 15-YEAR-OLD
SunRisers Hyderabad came into the match having won both of their matches against Rajasthan Royals this season. Despite having the psychological advantage, SRH failed to exert any pressure on wonder-kid Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old ripped into SRH captain Pat Cummins and set the tone for the match.
His innings of 97 runs off just 29 balls helped RR reach a mammoth total of 243 runs in the first innings of the match. SRH did not cope well with the pressure in the chase and ended up losing half of their batting order in the powerplay itself.
From there on, it was just about how soon RR were able to wrap up the side. SRH dragged the game till the final over, scoring 192 runs. Nitish Reddy top-scored for the side, with 38 runs off 20 balls.
