Renu Tripathi plans to establish an NGO dedicated to educating underprivileged children and to continue contributing to society after retirement.

A teacher from Ghaziabad district in Uttar Pradesh has not only transformed the lives of her students through dedication, innovation, and a distinctive teaching approach but has also brought pride to the entire district. Dr. Renu Tripathi, a science teacher at Government Girls Inter College, Vijay Nagar, has been selected for the National Teachers Award 2026. She will receive the prestigious honor from the President of India in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day, September 5.
This year, 48 teachers from across the country have been selected for the award, including three from Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Renu Tripathi is one of the three awardees from the state and the sole recipient from Ghaziabad.
Originally from Pilkhuwa, Renu Tripathi has dedicated 26 years to the field of education. She has been teaching science at Government Girls Inter College, Vijay Nagar, since 2006. Coming from a middle-class family, she pursued higher education with determination and holds degrees including MSc, MEd, PhD, and MA in Economics.
Over the years, she has received several prestigious honors, including the Kautilya Award, Bhartendu Harishchandra Award, and Ocean Award from the Government of India; the Ideal Teacher Award and Teaching Learning Award from the Uttar Pradesh government; and the Ambedkar Award from the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. In 2022, she was also honored with the State Teacher Award by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Recalling the moment she learned about her selection for the National Teachers Award, Renu Tripathi said she was overwhelmed with happiness and felt as though God had fulfilled one of her wishes. She believes that science should not be confined to textbooks and that students learn better through practical experiences. In line with the New Education Policy, she has developed small learning modules and teaching-learning materials (TLMs). She makes extensive use of smart boards, PowerPoint presentations, and the school’s botanical garden to make science lessons more engaging and practical.
Her greatest satisfaction, she says, comes from seeing her students become self-reliant and successful. Many of the students she has taught are now making their mark in different fields. She recalls one student from an economically disadvantaged family who is now working in digital engineering in Pune. In another case, four daughters of a family whose parents worked as tailors have gone on to secure government jobs. For Renu, such achievements are the true measure of a teacher’s success.
Education is also deeply rooted in Renu’s family. Her husband and one of her sons work in the education sector, while another son is employed in the corporate sector. She continues to encourage her students to pursue their education while developing the skills and confidence needed to become self-reliant.
Renu is scheduled to retire in July 2027, but she has no plans to step away from education. Her dream is to establish an NGO dedicated to educating underprivileged children and to continue contributing to society even after retirement.
Expressing gratitude for the National Teachers Award, Renu thanked the Government of India as well as her in-laws and family for their constant support. She said that after receiving the award from the President, she would like to ask him what more she could do for the country in the field of education.
The college principal described Renu Tripathi as the pride of the institution and said that her receiving the honor directly from the President is a moment of immense pride for the entire school. For Renu, however, the award is not just a personal achievement—it is an opportunity to reaffirm her commitment to educating children, empowering them, and building a better future.
