Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer travelled together in the same car to Mumbai’s Jio World Centre to attend the Global Fintech Fest on Thursday.
The symbolic show of camaraderie underscored the close personal bond between the two leaders. PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a candid picture with Starmer seated together in a car en route to the event.
The Prime Minister said that India-UK friendship is on the move and is filled with great vigour.
“India-UK friendship is on the move and is filled with great vigour! A picture from earlier today, when my friend PM Starmer and I began our journey to attend the Global Fintech Fest,” he said on X.

The shared car ride came during Starmer’s two-day visit to India. He is accompanied by a delegation of 125 of the UK’s most prominent business leaders, entrepreneurs, and educationists. They landed in Mumbai on Wednesday morning for a two-day visit.
Today, both leaders held bilateral talks, which primarily focused on enhancing India-UK ties in areas such as trade, defence, security, and critical technology.
After the bilateral meeting, PM Modi announced a series of landmark collaborations between India and the United Kingdom.
“India and the UK are natural partners. The roots of our relationship are faith in democracy, freedom and the rule of law. In the times of current global instability, the strengthening relationship of India and the UK has remained an important pillar of global stability and economic development, PM Modi said.
Speaking on the defence cooperation between India and the UK, PM Modi said, “We are moving towards defence co-production.”
Starmer’s trip came two-and-half months after the two countries inked a landmark free trade pact that will increase market access, cut tariffs and is expected to result in doubling the bilateral trade by 2030. The trade deal was firmed up during PM Modi’s visit to London in July.
PM Modi’s Car Ride With Putin
This is not the first time that PM Modi shared a car ride with a foreign counterpart. Last month, PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin travelled together in the same car to the venue of their bilateral meeting after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.
Taking to X, PM Modi had said, “After the proceedings at the SCO Summit venue, President Putin and I travelled together to the venue of our bilateral meeting. Conversations with him are always insightful.”
