Former national wrestler arrested in Ranchi drug case after 3 years on the run

Ranchi Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their crackdown on drugs by arresting an absconding accused in an NDPS Act case linked to Dhurva police station case number 116/23. The accused, identified as Amit, is a resident of the Sampla police station area in Haryana’s Rohtak district.

According to the police, Amit is a former national-level wrestler who won a bronze medal at a national wrestling competition in 2013.

The case dates back to April 20, 2023, when an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act in the Dhurva police station area. Police said around 500 grams of a prohibited narcotic substance was recovered in connection with the case. As the investigation progressed, officers uncovered several important leads about a network involved in drug trafficking, during which Amit’s name emerged.

The accused had been absconding for a long time. Police received information that he was hiding in Delhi. The Dhurva police then contacted the Delhi Crime Branch NR-II and began efforts to track him down.

On August 18, 2026, a raid was conducted near Madhuban Chowk in Delhi’s Rohini area with the assistance of the Delhi Crime Branch team. Amit was arrested during the operation.

He was produced before a Rohini court, which granted a three-day transit remand. He was subsequently brought to Ranchi.

Amit has also been associated with wrestling and reportedly won a bronze medal at a national-level wrestling competition in 2013. Police are now investigating his alleged links to the drug trade.

According to Hatia DSP Neeraj Kumar, the investigation has revealed the presence of an active network involved in procuring opium from Jharkhand and transporting it to Delhi. Police are now trying to identify the other people involved in the network and determine how the narcotics were being supplied to other states.
