EXCLUSIVE: ‘संविधान समझे बिना बयान देना आसान’, प्रियंका गांधी पर स्मृति ईरानी का पलटवार

Former Union Minister Smriti Irani while talking to Aaj Tak said that the goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very clear. Implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in the next Lok Sabha elections. He has appealed to all the political parties that this is not an issue of any one party, but of more than 46 crore women voters of the country.

More than 50 crore women are part of the working population in the country. Women have never lagged behind in social and economic contribution, so why should Parliament lag behind in political participation?

There were only 4 percent women in the first Lok Sabha, today there are about 13 percent. Is it enough? No. If there is no delimitation, it will not be possible to implement it.

He said that the Prime Minister has shown generosity. The opposition has been saying again and again that we started women’s reservation. Now that the opportunity has come, they should be supported. If they are just doing headline hunting or credit politics, then the Prime Minister said – take full credit, but get the bill passed.

Congress leader in the house Priyanka Gandhi Has said that the government should implement it now. Reacting to Priyanka’s statement, Smriti said that it is easy to say such things without understanding the constitutional limits. It is not possible to implement reservation without delimitation and withdrawing the constitution. If we do this then the question of men’s rights will arise. Therefore the government’s proposal is within the scope of the Constitution.

If the opposition does not agree then what is Plan B?

Smriti Iran said that the government sincerely wants to implement it by 2029. The Prime Minister is confident that no party will stand against women. When this bill was passed for the first time, there was consensus. Even today the Prime Minister is appealing for support from all parties in one voice.

He said that the government has assured the House that there will be no injustice to any state or community. The census has not been completely segregated. This notion is wrong. The government has taken a clear stand on this and the constitutional process will be followed.

He said that if politics remains limited to traditional seats only, the country will not develop. The government has clearly said that there will be no injustice and parliamentary traditions will be followed.

Is all this a political move related to West Bengal elections?

Smriti Irani said that elections are held somewhere or the other in India all the time. There will never be a time when the opposition will say that today is the right day. If the opposition feels that this issue is electoral, then being the woman Chief Minister of Bengal, she should support it the most.

Today the country is seeing who is for women’s reservation and who is against it. If anyone opposes it, the people of the country will recognize him.
