Cavani enjoyed a trophy-laden career at club level too as he clinched the Ligue 1 title as many as six times plying his trade for PSG, in addition to five Coupe de France titles.

Uruguay legend Edinson Cavani announced that he had decided to hang up his boots, bringing the curtains down on an incredible career that saw the striker delight fans all across the world with his sharpshooting abilities.

Cavani, who represented multiple big-name clubs throughout his career including Manchester United, PSG, Napoli and Boca Juniors, expressed his gratitude to the game in a touching farewell note.

“Thank You, Football!” Cavani said.

“You shaped me, challenged me, taught me to get back up when I fell, and to value every step of the journey. You allowed me to fulfil dreams that, as a child, seemed impossible, and to meet incredible people both on and off the pitch,” he added.

“None of this would have been possible without my family, my friends, my teammates, the coaches, and above all, the people. The love from the fans in every country and at every club is something I will carry with me forever,” the post continued

“I leave in peace, with the calmness of knowing I gave everything in every training session and every match. With mistakes, with successes, but always with respect for this profession that gave me so much,” he added.

Cavani, who won the Copa America with Uruguay in the year 2011, enjoyed a trophy-laden career at club level too as he clinched the Ligue 1 title as many as six times plying his trade for PSG, in addition to five Coupe de France titles.

Cavani, who started his youth career at Danubio, went on to make his senior debut for the side in the year 2005 before earning a switch to Serie A side Palermo in 2007. He went on to headline the Napoli unit between 2011 and 2013 before making the switch to PSG.

He moved to England in 2020 with Manchester United before his transfer to Spanish side Valencia in 2022, following which he returned to South America with Argentine super club Boca Juniors.
