‘Educated, Self-Reliant And Empowered’ Women Key To Nation’s Progress, Says President

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday said that women play a very important role in the progress of Indian society and the nation, stating, “Educated, self-reliant and empowered women are the greatest strength of any country’s development.”

The President made these remarks while addressing the concluding session of the two-day national conference of women thinkers titled “Bharti – Naari Se Narayani”, held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The conference, organised on March 7 and 8, saw participation from women leaders and thinkers from across the country.

In her address, President Murmu pointed out that in Indian tradition, women have always been more than just protectors of the family, noting, they are also “symbols of knowledge, strength and prosperity”.

She said that today, Indian women are achieving remarkable success in fields such as education, science, administration, sports, entrepreneurship and social service, making a significant contribution to nation building.

She stressed that the real progress of society is possible only when women have equal opportunities, respect and security. “Women must have the freedom to make decisions, the opportunity to live with self-respect, and equal access to education and employment,” she said.

The President added that the idea of women-led development is growing rapidly in India and encouraged young girls to move forward confidently, realise their dreams and actively contribute to the nation’s growth.

At the closing ceremony, V. Shanta Kumari, Chief of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, also said that women should accept encouragement from society and use it to enhance their abilities. She emphasised that by staying connected to Indian culture and taking pride in it, women can inspire society and become role models.

Shivani V., Secretary of Bhartiya Vidvat Parishad, noted that the conference aimed to strengthen women’s journey from silent strength to decisive power. Around 1,500 women thinkers participated, discussing empowerment, leadership, education and self-reliance, with a focus on women-led nation building.
