ED has arrested DCP Shantanu Sinha Ghosh of Kolkata Police. Summons were issued to him several times, but he was not appearing, after which a look-out notice was also issued against him.
His arrest took place during the investigation in the Sona Pappu case. This case pertains to cases of land grabbing, extortion and major financial frauds related to real estate in Kolkata.
At the same time, the Municipal Corporation demolished an office and a clock tower of Trinamool Congress (TMC) with a bulldozer on Thursday. Local people had complained about it being illegal a long time ago.
In 2025 the court declared the office illegal
The court had ordered its demolition in the year 2025 itself, but the authorities did not take any action then. The tower was inaugurated by former minister Arup Biswas, who recently lost the assembly elections.
According to The Hindu, TMC’s office and tower were built by occupying the playground. Earlier, on May 5, the next day after the election results, a TMC office was also demolished in the New Market area of Kolkata.
Bulldozer hit TMC office in New Market, Kolkata
On May 5, a mob of BJP supporters carried party flags and vandalized shops near the New Market area of Kolkata. During this time, a bulldozer was also run on the TMC office. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the TMC office in Asansol late night. The cause of the fire has not been known.
Apart from this, TMC office in Jagatballabhpur was set on fire. The party had accused BJP supporters of arson.
