In a shocking breach of national security, a manager of the DRDO guest house in Jaisalmer has been arrested on charges of espionage, allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistan. The accused, Mahendra Prasad, a native of Almora in Uttarakhand, had been employed at the guest house since 2008. The facility, located in Chandan near the India-Pakistan border, regularly hosts high-ranking DRDO scientists and senior military officials during testing operations.
Security agencies say the revelations have sent shockwaves through the defence establishment. “He has been arrested,” officials confirmed, following intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance. “Important evidence of espionage has been found from his mobile and chats,” they added, suggesting that the information leak may have been ongoing for some time. The nature of the leaked data, its sensitivity, and the duration of the breach are now under close scrutiny.
Military intelligence and other security agencies are currently interrogating the accused. According to sources, the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) may also step in for questioning. Officials are trying to determine how long Prasad had been passing information and whether he was part of a larger espionage network.
The location of the guest house is of strategic concern. The area includes vital installations such as the Pokhran firing range, where critical defence tests are conducted. The proximity to these sensitive sites and the access granted to the guest house manager make the charges particularly alarming.
The arrest comes on the heels of other espionage-related crackdowns in the region. Just days earlier, another accused Pakistani spy, Shakoor Khan, described as a government employee with influential contacts, was also arrested in Jaisalmer. Agencies say “important evidence of espionage” was found on his mobile device as well.
After the high-profile Operation Sindoor, which unearthed two key alleged spies – Pathan Khan and Shakoor Khan – security agencies have been on heightened alert across Rajasthan’s border districts. Mahendra Prasad’s arrest now adds to the growing list of those believed to be aiding Pakistan’s intelligence operations from within India.
