Amid Diwali festivities in the national capital, two persons died and a third was seriously injured in a firing incident in the city’s Farsh Bazar area of Shahdara on Thursday at around 8:30 pm, police said.
The two dead included a 40-year-old man and his teenage nephew. The former’s 10-year-old son was left injured. The double murder has created panic in the area. The police suspect personal rivalry behind this tragic incident.
The Delhi Police received a PCR call at around 8.30 pm reporting firing at the Farsh Bazar Police Station area, following which, the SHO and the police staff rushed to the spot. According to eyewitnesses, how heavy firing took place amid the noise of firecrackers.
The deceased have been identified as Akash (40) and Rishabh Sharma (16). Krish Sharma (10) has been badly injured by bullets.
The police said that five rounds of bullets were fired targeting the father-son and the nephew. The police are currently investigating the case.
The CCTV footage of the area is being scrutinized by the police and information is being obtained from eyewitnesses.

As per the CCTV footage, the incident took place when Akash and his family were celebrating Diwali and were lighting crackers outside their house. The two attackers came to the spot, one of them riding a scooter. The one on the scooter got down briefly and touched Akash’s feet. Then, the person standing beside him took out a gun and barged into the house, killing Akash at the doorstep. One of the bullets also hit his son Krish, who was inside the house.
According to witnesses, when the assailant came out of the house, Akash’s nephew Rishabh tried to stop them running down the street. However, he was shot dead during the chase.
Police suspect that this incident took place due to personal enmity. They have arrested one of the accused in the case, who is a minor. According to the police, the accused is well known to the family of the deceased. However, the motive behind this murder has not come to light so far.
