US President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday as world leaders grappled with the fallout of the wars in Iran and Ukraine. During his address, Trump said Iran remained a major threat to the US and the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world.

Speaking at the UNGA podium, Trump called upon all nations to join the United States in enforcing the complete economic isolation of Iran until they stop their attacks on commercial shipping, relinquish their nuclear ambitions, and ceases its support of terrorism.

“I have a big decision to make: when the deal can be made, do we rebuild and create a far greater country than it was before — maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East, or even the world? Or do I annihilate? And do I annihilate quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries? Do I drive them into hell, with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness and adoration?” he said.

However, Trump hinted at a deal with Iran after the midterm elections, saying Tehran was waiting to see the Republican Party’s performance in the polls. “What they don’t realise is that I’m not running. I did, and won, an election, and I’ll be here for two and a half more years. The Republican Party is running, and I’ll be helping them,” he stressed.
