Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that differences between India and China should never be allowed to turn into disputes.
PM Modi and Chinese President met earlier today in Tianjin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Speaking at a special briefing on the Prime Minister’s visit to China, Misri said, “The common interests of the two countries outweigh their differences and the two leaders also shared a consensus on the fact that differences should not be allowed to be turned into disputes.”
He added that both leaders agreed that India and China are primarily focused on their own domestic development goals and, in this regard, are partners rather than rivals.
“It was also an element of consensus between them that a stable and amicable relationship between India and China can be to the benefit of the 2.8 billion people who live in the two countries,” the Foreign Secretary stated.
