Hours after 21 people were killed in a devastating fire at a B&B in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, police have arrested the owner of the establishment.

On Wednesday morning, at least 21 people died and many others injured after a massive fire broke out at the Flourish Stay B&B in Hauz Rani in the congested Malviya Nagar area. According to officials, 18 of those killed were foreigners.

According to a report by India Today, the investigations have revealed that the property was permitted under the Bed & Breakfast category for only six rooms but was allegedly operating nearly 25 rooms, far exceeding its licensed capacity. They also revealed that guests were alloted rooms in the basement.

Sources said the Flourish Stay bed-and-breakfast hotel, where the fire broke out earlier in the day, was being operated by three partners. All had been on the run since the incident.

The sources had said that the partners also owned several other hotels and guest houses.
