Delhi-NCR experienced relentless heavy rainfall through Wednesday night, starting around 10 PM, leading to widespread waterlogging and significant disruption for commuters across the capital region.
Areas severely affected by waterlogging include Mayur Vihar, ITO, Mandi House, Laxmi Nagar, Patel Nagar, Mathura Road, Badarpur, and various parts of South Delhi. In Noida, traffic was severely impacted by inundated roads in Sector-12, 16, 62, and 18, among other locations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall in the coming hours and predicts that light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely to continue in Delhi for the next seven days.
The continuous downpour has brought down temperatures in the capital. On Wednesday, July 30, several parts of Delhi recorded significant rainfall. The Safdarjung weather station registered 15 mm of rain between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Palam recorded 28.3 mm, Lodhi Road 7.7 mm, and Ayanagar 1.6 mm.
The maximum temperature on Wednesday was 32.7 degrees Celsius, which is 1.7 degrees below the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.8 degrees Celsius.
Monsoon activity has been robust this July, with Delhi recording 235.2 mm of rainfall so far this month, surpassing the usual average of 209.7 mm. Since June 1, the total rainfall stands at 337.2 mm, significantly higher than the average of 270.1 mm for the period, despite the monsoon arriving in Delhi only towards the end of June this year.
