Ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Bengaluru, Karnataka, state Deputy CM DK Shivakumar alleged that Odisha Congress MLAs were offered Rs 5 crore each for cross-voting. Police have detained two people in this case.
DK Shivakumar said that four people from Odisha had reached a resort in Bidadi near Bengaluru, where Odisha Congress MLAs are staying. He offered Rs 5 crore each to the MLAs in exchange for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Shivakumar said that Congress MLAs rejected the proposal and immediately informed the party leadership about it. According to him, out of the four people, two fled from the spot, while two were caught.
He claimed that blank checks were also found with the accused. The police have seized them and a complaint has been registered in the matter and legal action is being taken. Shivkumar called it BJP’s Operation Lotus. He alleged that efforts are being made to break the MLAs of opposition parties.
Some Congress MLAs reached Bhubaneswar from Bengaluru on Sunday night.
Congress leader said – death threat if offer is rejected
In this matter, Odisha Congress Legislature Party deputy leader Ashok Kumar Das has also lodged a complaint at Bidadi police station.
The complaint states that four unidentified persons contacted some MLAs and offered them crores of rupees for cross-voting in favor of a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Das also alleged that when the MLAs rejected the offer, they were given death threats if they returned to Odisha.
8 MLAs stayed in Bengaluru
Eight Congress MLAs from Odisha were staying in a resort in Bengaluru since March 12. He was brought here due to fear of horse trading before the Rajya Sabha elections.
Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on 4 seats of Odisha on Monday. Congress and Biju Janata Dal have fielded one candidate each, while BJP has made the contest interesting by fielding additional candidates.
Elections are being held on four Rajya Sabha seats of Odisha, in which BJP is likely to get two seats and BJD one seat. There will be a contest between BJP and BJD candidates on the fourth seat.
BJP-BJD declared candidates
BJD has declared Satrat Mishra as its candidate, and BJP has announced the names of Odisha party chiefs Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
Biju Janata Dal on Thursday issued a ‘three-line whip’ for all party MLAs. In this, the MLAs were instructed to compulsorily be present in the party meetings to be held in Bhubaneswar. The MLAs have been asked to reach Naveen Niwas on 13 and 14 March.
82 BJP MLAs stayed in Paradeep
BJP had also sent 82 of its MLAs to Paradeep on March 14. The party has taken this step to formulate a strategy in support of state president Manmohan Samal, MP Sujit Kumar and independent candidate Dilip Rai. After the meeting at the BJP headquarters in Bhubaneswar, the ministers and MLAs left for Paradip in two luxury buses. All the MLAs are staying in Dilip Rai’s hotel in Paradip.
