A three-year-old girl died after drowning in rainwater that accumulated following heavy rainfall in Ghaziabad’s Vijay Nagar area on Thursday, in a heartbreaking incident that has left her family devastated.

The incident took place in the Sarvodaya Nagar locality, where overnight and early morning showers caused severe waterlogging. Several parts of the area were inundated after continuous rainfall lashed the National Capital Region, with water entering homes and flooding residential streets.

According to the family, the child, identified as Deepti, was inside the house when the tragedy unfolded. She was later found submerged in the rainwater that had accumulated inside the home. By the time family members located her and pulled her out of the water, it was too late.

The family immediately rushed Deepti to a nearby private hospital in the hope of saving her. However, doctors declared the three year old dead on arrival. The incident has left the family in deep shock and mourning.

The tragedy comes amid widespread disruption caused by heavy rainfall across Ghaziabad. Several low-lying areas reported severe waterlogging after the downpour, affecting daily life and causing traffic disruptions. Vijay Nagar was among the worst hit localities, with streets and residential areas remaining inundated for hours.

The heavy rain also affected key stretches across the city, including the Vijay Nagar underpass, where waterlogging hampered vehicular movement. In view of the prevailing weather conditions and the impact of the rainfall, the district administration ordered the closure of schools as a precautionary measure.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by severe waterlogging during the monsoon, especially in densely populated residential areas, where even a few inches of accumulated water can turn fatal for young children.
