Delhi Government Expands Recruitment Opportunities For Ex-Agniveers (File/ PTI)
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved a 20% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment to fire operator posts in the Delhi Fire Services and warder and matron posts in the Prison Department. The home department order also provides age relaxation for eligible candidates.
The decision was taken under the relevant recruitment rules and follows the Centre’s policy for the rehabilitation of former Agniveers, according to a report by The Indian Express.
Age Relaxation for Former Agniveers
Former Agniveers applying for these posts will get three years’ relaxation over the prescribed upper age limit. Candidates from the first batch of the Agniveer scheme may get a higher relaxation of five years.
“Candidates from the first batch of the Agniveer scheme may be granted a higher relaxation of five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit,” the notification issued by the home department said.
The order also allows the department concerned to decide on relaxation in the physical efficiency test for former Agniveers.
The 20% reservation will apply as a horizontal reservation category. If suitable former Agniveers are not available, the government’s existing guidelines on horizontal reservation will apply.
Centre Also Expands Ex-Agniveer Quota
The move comes weeks after the Centre announced a 50% reservation for former Agniveers in Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman vacancies across Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed the Lok Sabha on July 21 that former Agniveers would be entitled to half of these vacancies as a matter of policy.
The Centre has also decided to exempt former Agniveers from the written examination and the Physical Standards Test and Physical Efficiency Test required for other CAPF aspirants.
A dedicated Ex-Agniveer wing has also been set up in the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate with former Agniveers and track their employment after completion of their four-year service.
