Delhi Anti-CEC Protest Live: INDIA Bloc To March To Supreme Court Over SIR, CEC’s Resignation

Delhi Anti-CEC Protest Live Updates: The INDIA bloc is set to intensify its confrontation with the Centre and the Election Commission, with opposition parties preparing to stage a fresh protest in New Delhi on Monday, October 12, over alleged electoral irregularities, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and their demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The proposed agitation comes after the alliance’s plan to seek the intervention of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant hit a roadblock, with the CJI advising opposition leaders to approach the Supreme Court through a formal petition as the matter is already sub judice. The fresh protest also follows a day of tense demonstrations, widespread detentions and allegations of police excesses in the national capital.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are expected to lead the opposition’s initiative. The Congress has also asked its MPs to remain present in Delhi in view of the planned agitation. The INDIA bloc’s renewed protest comes amid mounting political tensions over the electoral roll revision exercise and opposition allegations against the Election Commission.

Rahul Gandhi has accused the Centre and Delhi Police of suppressing young protesters and alleged that violence was directed at students and women during the previous demonstration. The BJP and the authorities’ response to these allegations will remain a key point of focus as the political confrontation continues.
